The debacle at the State Legislature is a political problem. The evidence is overwhelming that the Democrats in power are wed to bankrupt economic policies and a sad big government welfare state that has failed.
The problem is political and so is the solution. Hawaii will not win at the legislature until we win at the polls. Electing supposed "new" Democrats only sustains the problems. Check the record. Putting the blame on the legislature is a misnomer. The failure rests with the Democrats, their deeds speak louder than the words. Incidentally those with something to hide usually don't want to play the blame game.
Honest Republican leadership will dramatically reduce government spending and taxes, implement systemic education reform, privatize work programs for the able bodied exploiting welfare, institute a criminal justice system where punishment is a deterrent, provide for genuine insurance reform, make OHA and Hawaiian Homes autonomous and run by Hawaiians, and so much more.
I remain optimistic that Hawaii will get the leadership it deserves. Great things will happen when power, resources and responsibility are given back to our people.

The government has long portrayed itself as The Great Equalizer; taking from some according to ability and giving to others according to need. While it is good to help one's neighbors, the government doesn't trust people to do this voluntarily. Officials believe that only through government force can the proper safety net be provided for all. To date, however, the government has not acted aggressively enough. Just think of the frontiers yet to be explored!
Some people have the misfortune of having fewer functioning body parts than others. Most people have 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 lungs, 2 kidneys, and 2 eyes, while others have only one or none. Well equipped people have been known to give spare body parts to others voluntarily and at no charge. Since there is still a serious shortage of body parts, people have been known to sell their spare parts for immediate transfer or for transfer upon the death of the seller. This provides money to the seller or his family. In most places, the selling of body parts has been outlawed because it is said to be immoral or greedy to profit from someone else's misfortune.
What a perfect opportunity for selfless government officials to step in. Yes, people with the best body parts could be required by government to pass along spares to the unfortunate. Those with the best eyes, for example, could have one removed and transferred to those who are blind. This would guarantee a certain "safety net" in bodily functions to all.
Sure there might be some problems, but these are surely worth the risk. A careless bureaucracy might waste body parts, it might maim people needlessly, it might give political cronies 3 or 4 eyes and a dozen arms and kidneys, or it might dole out a fortune in non-bid contracts to the doctors and lawyers involved. But one has to expect a little misfortune when playing god. After all, we don't own our lives. We merely rent them-until government officials decide what to do with us.
