Hello Rabbet,
At this time, (while writting this message), I listen to your broadcast. I listen to your great music IRH Dace Party. The songs that you put and the way you put them are great!
I have a trick to listen to your broadcasts: I log in the IRH page, and then I load the .RA file and after that I minimize the RealAudio player. That allows me to listen to your broadcast while browsing the internet, writting messages, transfering files or run other windows or dos programs while listening to your broadcast!
I'm located in the City of Montreal in Canada. That's 6000 miles away from your station!!! :-) That's what I call the "Power of Telecommunications".
Island of Hawai: Paradise... Wonderful weather... Sun... Hot Hot Hot (as the song),... The Pacific ocean... temperature: 87oF
City of Montreal: Cold weather, lots of clouds, Cold Cold Cold -30oF...
By the way, your signal is Very strong, No errors at all, Fast and reliable transmission, and the sound is comparable to a Strong AM station. frequency response: 60Hz - 3kHz, Noise floor: -50dB Excellent! My soundBlaster 16 is connected to my stereo system and I enjoy your broadcast that came from Hawai, that crossed the Pacific Ocean, that crossed the US, that crossed Canada to arrive at Montreal. (Near Atlantic Ocean.) Keep the good work and don't forget that I have my ears on your station!!!
Here in Montreal Canada, I have a radio show every Sundays from 6pm to 12 midnight in Greek for the Greek Community. And I'll broadcast a International show (in Greek) in the internet. I'll be able to reach Greeks far away were no Greek station exists. I began to set it up. I'll use TrueSpeech audio. I can't use RealAudio because my computer is a 486sx2/66 without a Math Co-processor. The RealAudio encoder requires a math co-processor. And the other option that I'll go with TrueSpeech is because it's free! 1 hour of audio consumes 3.6 Mb od HD space.
My home page is set up already: http://www.infobahnos.com/~dimitri/home.htm
It's not ready yet because I'm waiting for My Internet Provider to configure the server to recognise .wav dsp encoded files.
PS. On your latest broadcast you said: "It's Tuesday January 2nd 1995..." I'll take this opportunity to wish you a Happy new Year. Don't forget next time: we are in 1996! ! ! Bye and keep up the good work, say Hi to everybody from Me (Jimmy) from Montreal Canada. and I have my ears on you!
Hey Rabbett,
Works fine! Sounds Great! (But my computer's breaking a sweat.)
I've been listening for a while on RA 1.0, and your show brought a nice relaxed island feel to my room here in New Jersey. The audio quality was poor, but I got the general feel of the music. It was sorta like listening to the entertainment from the hotel next door.
Well now, its like walking right in to the show, paying the cover charge and sitting down. No, the sound's not perfect, but much better.
The hard part is that my computer (Pentium 90MHz, 8M memory) seems busier, and whenever I ask it to do anything while the audio is playing, it interupts the audio. Before it would only interrupt it sometimes.
Anyway, I hope you dualcast in V 1.0 and V 2.0 for a while, since not all of us have the equipment to listen to 2.0.
Keep it going!

Rabbett;
Files sound great, but was botherd by continious breaks in the file, packet delivery was indicating as high as 45% loss factor. I am running Win95, 16meg ram, 486DX2-66 Tristar Computer and a 28.8 modem, ATT Dataport. While the file was playing, stereo quality was obvious.
Happy New Year,
Jack
--Sounds like a connection problem, as you'll read we have even made Switzerland in good quality!
I am listening to your site using RA2.0 from Springfield Il. Keep up the great work. The sound quality is fair with some break up but clear enough to understand and enjoy the news and talk features. The music quality is pretty good. It is incredible that I can get your programs here in Illinois and feel like I am almost visiting Hawaii. It snowed 6 inches here yesterday and the high was 20 degrees, tomrrow the wake up temp is predicted at 7. It is 130Am here so the web traffic low I hope the quality is as good during the day. What does Da Kine mean anyway? Keep up the great work, I really have only started to explore your site.
Regards,
Bob Kojima
Hi Rabbett! I just discovered this h4 internet stuff tonight. Oh, my name is Tiffany Lum (I'm on my roommates computer right now) and I'm a freshman at the university of washington. I graduated this past year from Kamehameha Schools and I lived in Hawaii all my life. I miss Hawaii so much but these neat Hawaii home pages have helped me get over some of my homesickness. I just taped all the KCCN jingles from my room. Technology is amazing. Anyway if you've got the time, email me at tanuki@u.washington.edu You're doing a good job so far. Keep it up. Aloha! Tiffany
Dear Rabbett,
Ran your Teating (12/29/95) clip with 0.1% lost packets.
It sounded great - like AM, not like SW (RA 1.0).
Reagards, Dick Hodgman
Hi rabbett
Happy new year.
Iu didd gudd work.

We have to add: ...urbietorbi olioetpetrolio...
Many greetings from Swissland.>
:-))
Wow! I thought the old real audio was pretty neat, but this is almost as good as my actual radio! Best of all, I can listen to IRH and work in telnet windows without seeming to affect the sound quality.
Comes through quite well on my Powermac. Keep up the good work!

Thay were very funny, I put this sit in my Bookmark, thank you and good luck....

Hi there Rabbett... My Dad and I share this account. His name is Wayne and he listens to your site all the time. Will keep listening.

Love your site and makes me miss Hawaii! I have the same problems with RealAudio 2.0 that you mention. The first download remains closed, and I have to manually hit the play button. The second download does not displace the first one, and hitting play still plays the first selection. They also do not appear on the "Open Recent" menu.
----------------------------- End Original Text -----------------------------
The problem has been fixed...it's a bug in the player but we have added a signal to the ram files to make it work..
Aloha,

Thanks Rabbett! I know this going be one good kind year cause the Governor and all the people who get plenty money here go give me two thumbs up! Hey Rabbett....
The site is too cool...Used to stay in pearl city in da late 70's & early 80's. Sure is cold here in St Louis... Waz checkin out da recipies but couldnt find kaluaha pig (sp). Sure loved that pig. IRH is awesome cant wait for the real audio people to get version 2.0 for win 3.1 and 486 dx. But i just enjoy listenin to the other RA filesfor now. Keep up the great show and pages. Just wish I could be there but this is close.
johni@nightowl.net
Rabbett,
I'm listening to Gabby and he sounds great! The audio quality is much better than with the previous version.
I'm having a small problem with the Beta RA player in that it sets its process priority to HIGH, thereby slowing everything else on the system to a crawl. (I'm running Windows NT 3.51, 486/66, 28.8 modem, 28MB memory, Netscape 2.0 Beta 4 (32-bit), 32-bit RA Player Beta 1.) But I think this is not *your* problem!
Charlie
Hey they sure gound good hr with the new raplayer for 28.8! I love the music too. In fact I went to some other web pages and my player dont play any of the 28.8 stuff. just the slower ones. But, ur page plays great hawaiian music! Good luck and again nice page u have here!

Your test program in Real Audio 2 sounds great here in cold, wet, gray Seattle. Looking forward to the new programs you have made. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy them.

Hey!
The music is great on RA 2.0b
We could enjoy a touch of the islands from here in far-away Sweden.
Hang loose and happy new year!

Hey Rabbett!
Thanks for the Hawaiian site! I've been on the mainland for thirteen years now. Sure is nice to hear some of the old tunes, and to hear what's going on currently in the Hawaiian music scene.
I camd to Hawaii in 1959 to work on the sugar plantations. I cut my eyeteeth on Lucky Luck and Aku. Some of your old music sure brings back memories. (Sure would like to hear some of Melveen sometime; Is she still down south?)
My wife is a Kauai girl, so we get back once or twice a year. When on Oahu we stay in Kaneohe. I'll be retiring shortly, and when I do we will be right back there. Until then, keep up the good work!
You've done a great job on your site. I connect at 28.8 kb and it is good. Not high fi - but usually quite good. I'm especially interested in what you are doing, for my intent is to work the net once I retire. You've really found a great niche.
Keith
I love the Sounds of Hawaii home page. Here in Ohio, there's not many ways to find Hawaiian music. By the way, all the .au sound files work perfectly on my Mac Centris 650.
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
GREAT stuff....don't quit.. My wife and I are frequent visitors to your great Islands. The music puts us back and starts us dreaming of a new trip tahat we are contemplating to your shores. Thanks again for the tunes and the mood.
Bill and Linda Pechnik
Aloha,
I really think this is probably the best thing that Hawaii has to offer on the WWW. I am building a web page for the RainBird (Windward Community College's yearly literary magazine). I think it important for the world to see how diverse and sophisticated Hawaii is. I am having a problem though with RealAudio. I can only download files (and paly them), they won't play in real time. Pixie Net doesn't seem to help. Any ideas? Once again great job on your web site! Mahalo JWG (p.s. I remember the rabbet & abbott show in the mornings)
Rabbett:
Thanks for the great surf page and latest forecast for Oahu. I am an older surfer from New Zealand and will be visiting Oahu in two weeks time. I dont want to drag my 8 foot mal with me, so what is the best deal for getting a little casual surfing while Im in Hawaii?
thanks.................Kevin.
Hi! I visit every once in awhile. =)

Your makin me cry man. I want to go back to North Shore. I'm in Colorado where there is no beach, and right now there is no snow on the slopes.
I'm a transplanted mainlander, been in Hawaii two years. I love this place! Hope to stay here forever. I just got on line with AOL and one of the first things I've done is find the Hawaii Home Page. I've been hearing about it and had to check it out. Great source of info. on local events and culture. I'll be back in the recipes- always looking for new ideas. Mahalo nui loa to you and the rest of the crew for the H4!

Hi Rabbet!
To introduce myself, I work at Apple in a marketing group. My specific function is to help market and promote the Apple Internet Server, and other internet-related products and technologies.
Was just surfing Brad Schrick's pages today, saw your "new" listing, and took a look. What a great site! It feels like fun, even through the cold electonics of the medium, the "feel" jumps right out from the first page. Congrats!

Eh Rabbett!
I wuz just cruzing da' net and found da' kine spot for some stoking music... !!
Been awhile since I've been back to Hawaii...
Nice to find something about Hawaii online... The music is nice... Wish it

Hi Rabbett
This is great .I've been on the net for about 5 months and this is what I've been
looking for. I was at Hickam AFB last year and was able to
enjoy some good hawaian music on FM but that doesn't do you
any good stateside.
I used to sit at the edge of Pearl Harbor just behind the
Officers Club and watch the sunset. I'm looking forward to
getting back to the Hale Koa Hotel. I found the place to retire
when I was there.
The shows are great and the music superb. Keep it tradition
al. I'll be listening hope to meet you when i return.

Rabbett,
Listening to Gabby Pahinui while typing this. Makes a Kailua boy really
homesick. My family still lives in the Grove off Oneawa Street. I
couldn't believe it when I saw Kailua on the tag. When you talked about
the moon coming up over Lanikai, I recall with fond memories the moon and
sun rises I've experienced at Kailua Beach.
Our family moved to Kailua in 1948 from Honolulu and I lived there until
I went to college in 1962. Much Aloha for the place in this heart.
Was last there last summer and this past Christmas. We're planning to go
over again soon. I would like to meet you when we get home. We have
printing and book customers on Oahu, so our trips are work and pleasure.
Mahalo. Keep up the good work.
Aloha

I enjoyed immensly your songs from this cold Quebec, please add some more,
I realy enjoyed heavenly Hanna.

Works fine on my 486DX2-66 using a Supra 288 V34 modem, SoundBlaster-16ASP and Labtec CS1400 speakers!
Good fun and informative!! Keep up the good work!

IRH, it sounds good here in Finland, Europe. I would'nt have
believed, with a radio(wave?) I couldn't have done this.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Hi Rabbet
I wanted to thank you. This is really cool. I was working on a flower
farm at Hana a couple of years ago and have missed the music ever since
I went mainland again. Now I'm in Austin Texas studying African
History.
I especially like your juke box 'cause I can listen while I read about
archaeology in Kenya.
I have to wonder: Do you get paid for this in some way! It's so
awesome--I didn't think things like this were free.
Dear Rabbett,
Mahalo nui loa for starting something great like this! I moved to Japan on business,
so I have been listening to your programs here in Japan. Although the sound quality is
not so good, I can still understand what you are saying well. In fact, compared to the
World Radio Network on Internet, your files sound a lot better. I hope you will
continue to bring us the lastest of the land I love. Is it possible, by the way, for
you to get some local news from local newspapers and TV news broadcats? This way, you
can have a wider coverage of current affairs in Hawaii.
Yours sincerely,
Aki Shimura
Hi!
Just wanted you to know that someone in Finland has been listening to

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy this page. I am turning
into a Gabby fan. 3 weeks ago I didn't know who Gabby was. :) Say, one
quick question, once an older show falls off, is it gone forever? I
really liked one of the older shows that is gone now and was just
wondering. Anyhoo, keep up the good work, and I'll be "tuning" in alot
when the ground here in Ithaca NY is covered with snow. Hopefully, that
cool Da Kine (SP?) music will keep us warm! Thanks for the great site!

Hi,Rabbitt.I just discovered RealAudio and the wonderful show. What a
joy.My wife and I love HA,esp Kauai so this is going to bring a lot of
pleasure and memories.I'm a long time reggae collector and love Jawaiin
music so the Dance Party tape is great. The only downside is that the
sound quality is quite poor-its gurggled and fuzzy.Perhaps there's
something I need to adjust on the player but I can't tell what.Any
ideas? If it can't be fixed, any chance of getting a tape of the shows?
Perhaps we could trade (I have a very large collection of reggae and
world beat) or perhaps I could look for something you have trouble
finding in HA (I live in Berkeley,CA).Or of course I'd be happy to send
you tapes and mailing envelopes or simply reimburse you for your
trouble.I realize none of this may be possible (like you have nothing
better to do that to make tapes for annonymous fans) but let me know.In
any case, this is the discovery of the month. Richard
The Labor Day show was great! I really enjoyed the selection of local music. I'll be back for
more of that.
The sound quality was about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. I'm running a 386 DX40 w/8Mb of RAM.
I'm using a SoundBlaster card. I found that turning the volume down on the speakers (hardware)
and turning the volume up with Real Audio (software) iimproved the quality greatly. The music
suffers the most.
Until next time. Thanks for the treat!
Jeff
Cruisen around on a Sunday Morning and found your show.
Love Maui and Hawain music. We will be back Christmas time
Can you play some Teresa Bright. I have her Painted Traditions
tape and play it all the time. Hawian Music selection
here in the Bay area is minimal.
I'll check in from time to time.
ps the new Real Audio is much improved over the first
version, doesn't pop. Still needs a way to go compete with
FM but is as good as AM

What a great site!
I live in Tallahassee, Florida yet my father lives just beyond KoKo Head.
I have really enjoyed your site. I'm a computr teacher at an elementary
school. And plan on letting my kids enjoy all your site has to offer. I am
also the webmaster there so check us out if you get time between all of
that cool programing.
To you and all your friends that helped put together this H4,
hotspots, IRH... mahalo. I downloaded the RealAudio and played
the jukebox. Now I know how much I lost touch of the Islands.
Noticed a lot of the music has raggae rythm...wow. But the
traditional hawaiian music brought chills and sweet memories
back.
I've only took a couple of steps in your works. I'm going to
have fun all night long. Thanks!!!
Hi I'm on the Hilo Side. Sunny Today. Nice site you got.
Why don't you use Interlink Hawaii? Isn't eworld a longdistance
call?
Well, anyway nice site.
Oh and when you play the realaudio clips with a 14.4 are you
supposed to get breaks in the sounds like every 4 secs?
and also after about 45 secs into all the audios i listen to it gives me
a messagew saying bad data or something for the last 30 secs?
oh well agan nice site.
Hi! I've just come back in my office and has been a real pleasure
to hear your "Aloha". What a great place you're living in! Hope I'll
come back soon (even if it's a little expensive, we are just in the
opposite side of the world!)
Bye bye!
Hi there:
you are doing a great job!
Looking forward to hearing more

Yo, Rabbett --
It's always a kick to surf on into H4 and see what new stuff you have
put up to stir traces of tradwind and scent of plumaria in my psyche.
Just returned from visiting your Talking Error page. My boy, I have
always suspected you aren't wrapped all that tight, but this removes all
doubt!
Our visit to Kaanapali and Princeville the first part of July was a true
delight, but alas we are now back in central Ahia (that's "Ohio" to the
uninitiated) and counting days (too danged many of them) until we can
head back in your direction. This time my brother came out with us to
our timeshare so we got to play tourhost a bit on our beloved North Shore
of Kauai. The highlight had to be the Captain Zodiac trip down the Na
Pali -- it had been 10 years since our first one, which is MUCH too long.
The weather cooperated and showed off the fantastic cliffs and valleys to
their best advantage, but for us the pinacle of the trip was the
dolphins.
Dolphins may not be a big deal to you Islanders, but for us Midwesterners
whose only saltwater within hundreds of miles is the stuff Grandma puts
her teeth in at night, this was the height of excitement. We managed to
run into a number of pods of spinner dolphins, and they put on quite a
show, demonstrating where they got their name. Ten years ago, we never
saw a one. T'was fantastic.
Got a handful of pix from the trip worthy of sending to you, if I ever
manage to get them scanned (as well as the usual bunch of birdcage
liners).
Anyhoo -- just wanted say mahalo again for all the work and dedication
you put into H4. It is one of my faves, and a prominent link on my
GETAWAYS page

Rabbett,
You site is so Cooooool! I just happened across your site the other day
while exploring Real Audio links. I just can't spend enough time on your
pages. I feel like I have made a trip to the islands!
I wish you much success in this endeavor and I really am looking forward
to cozying up to the computer with a BIG cup of Kona this winter (winter

Thanks again and I will be ordering a shirt or two for good measure!

Just browsing the "Whats New on the Web" and came across your

Hi There !
Just discovered our pages today and it reminded me of my never forgetful
time in Hawai'i, Dec'93-Jan'94. It's the one place I've been to that I
would really like to return to. Possibly for my 'old days' in about 25
years.
But, I as I'm in the office now, I don't have much time to surf through
your pages and I was wondering if it's possible that you will maybe have
B&B's (Bed & Breakfast)listed for folks like me who have a homesickness
for your kind of hospitality and beauty? I'm planning to go back, and it
would be great if something like this would be possible. But, there's
time. My schedule doesn't allow me to return to your beautiful land until
12-18 months from now as I wish to take my wife there for the 'time after
the wedding'.
I really enjoyed staying at Tony's Place in Lahaina on Maui and visiting
Steve Stills' pub (even lucky enough to hear him play there)! But this is
only one of my memories. Just being lost in the Grand Canyon of the
Pacific on Kauai a few days was such a great experience and being on the
Napali coast. I could go on...
I will keep checking out your pages to keep me going!!!
Hawai'i is the best place I've been to on this planet!!!
Keep it beautiful!!
Mahalo!

Aloha!!!! My name is Ruth Passarella and I now live in Austin, Texas. I
used to live in Kailua, Hawaii which I miss terribly. I miss my all of my
friends, weekends on Kailua & Lanikai Beach, my tan, the Aloha Tower
Marketplace, Restaurant Row, the late nights at the "WAVE", Sacred Falls,
the great outdoor concert's, the boys at Boston's Northend Pizza Bakery,
paddling for Waikiki Surf Club, Duke's, sailing with Dave, weekend
get-a-ways to Maui and Kauai, doing the Kailua Crawl, ....this list can go
on!!!
I am planing on visiting in November for Kathy-B's and Shannon's wedding!
Anyway, this is why I found you guys on the web. I really enjoy browsing H4
to see what's going on in Hawaii. Thank you!!!!
Robert,
I am in love with your web page! Now with real audio we can feel like we
are at home! I am very impressed with what you have done and keep up the
great work!
I have a question on the side here: We are coming home for vacation from
August 5 thru August 28 and my father-in-law wants to get his first computer
and is waiting for me to help out with everything. Can you reccommend
somwhere/someone to put together a system for him. I have been using
computers for 4 years so have some knowledge about things. Any helpful
hints would be apprecited since the last time we were home was over 4 years
ago and I wasn't even in to puters then and I don't even know anyone there
in the islands who is!
Thanks again for the great web site!

I Lived in Hawaii from 1960 through 1963. It was my most memorable life experience to date.
On the island of Oahu lives my beautiful daughter and her husband with three grandchildren.
Someday we'll see each other !!!
I was wondering if you might know anything about certain local
entertainers coming up to Utah to perform at a local college. I
understand that it is an Polynesian event that this college is sponsoring.
I don't even know if this is true but please let me know if you know of
anything about it.
Mahalo,
P.S.
I enjoy your setup (homepage) best i've seen so far. Really is customer
oriented. Right on!
NOTE: sorry, I don't have that info...but do stop back..Mahalo, Rabbett;)
Whoa! Your site is definitely my favorite use or RealAudio to date. The
sound quality is quite acceptable (compared to other music I've heard)
and the selections were outstanding. While I'm familiar with slack key
guitar (trendy last year), where can I pick up some of the other stuff
you play--Robee Kahakulau (spelling approximate) and the like?
Anyway, great site! I'm sure I will visit it often just to have that music
playing in the background.
Best,
Bob Freud
Hi
I'm sitting here listening to your first audio show here on the Internet
while I type this. OBTW, I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I wanted to
thank you and the site for making the RealAudio available. This is real
unbelieveable stuff.
I'm coming to Hawaii next month. This site and the music are really
putting me in the mood to see the sand, surf, and sun. Thanks again!!

I would also love to wake up in my home state but I got to thinking we are
lucky to be waking up in a country where the living isn't so bad after all..
Just watch the evening news and you can say lucky I live in the good ole
USA. Aloha no, Wanda Arvin
It sounds great! I'd just gone to the Virtual Vacation & listened to Ko'olau; your newer recordings sounded even
clearer (Gabby was a bit not as clear but I've heard so much about him even a muddy recording is better
than none.) I have that CD of Cyril's and love that particular piece and felt the reception I got here in Boston
didn't do it mis-service. I wonder if I got better quality given that it's 11 - midnight here. One half hour seems
reasonable; the RealAudio player let me move up when I decided I didn't want to listen to the complete sound
clip all at once. Although it eventually refused to respond to any changes: volume, position, or whatever - I
got a somewhat misleading message about it: Server not responding to requests for your document.
I'd clipped http://www.cyber-hawaii.com/audio/thebigsh.ram> from something, I think a URL line that had some
other stuff jammed in it; so I didn't have any visual to go with the audio (the Virtual Vacation screen stayed on
my screen). Keep that music coming; let me hear the top 10 or especially the top 10 that are somewhat traditional;
love Willie K., Dennis P. and Israel K.
Yo rabbett,
This site is awesome. It really brings out the local in me. I enjoyed
the music. I have one request. If it is possible, could you put the
song meha meha by the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau on the IRH. In my opinion,
this song reminds a lot of locals about hawaii and its white sandy
beaches. It is really great to know that you took the time to create
this site. Thank you (Mahalo)
Mel.
Great Home Page and real audio is the way the net is supposed to be. I
listen to the music and work on the computer. I am a home based business
and this is great.
Keep up the good work.
Aloha,
Richard Smith
I was just browsing through your coverage of the Merrie Monarch
Festival, Hawai`i '95.
I loved it. Your efforts in putting that together for those of us who
were not able to attend and also those who did attend, was incredible.
Although my heart aches when I look at the pictures from the Merrie
Monarch, and in that case any pictures from Hawai`i, I loved every
minute.
Thank you very much for sharing.... I can feel the aloha.
Aloha...... :) janet
Hi there,
I'm Stefan van Hattum and i'm living in the Netherlands.
Finally i've found a page on the web with hula pictures.
I was wondering is there also a newsgroup for hula dancers ?
I'm looking for hula dancers who would like to e-mail with me.
The hula dancing is very populair here in the Netherlands.
Me and my girlfriend have also joined a hula dancing group now for a
while.
We have 4 girls and 2 boys now in the group, and i must say we are
becoming populair here. The name of the group is "The Hawaiian Treasures"
I was wondering is there an FTP site where i can download pictures, so we
can see some nice costumes.
Stefan.
Eh, howzit Rabbett! By way of intro, my name is Shawn B.
Quick (disregard Sara's name, I'm borrowing her computer).
I'm a former 7-yr resident of Hawaii now living in the Bay
Area, working at Stanford University. Found your pages
while surfing and I'm so excited about it! Talk about
chicken skin all ovah! I'm a UH grad (both BA and MSW) and
I miss Hawaiian music and dance, and just the general cul-
ture so much. So I'm really grateful that you are doing
this web site -- I can see that I'll probably spend a great
deal of time here every day just checking in, and I love
your link to Hawaiian Radio and their sites.
Have you any information on Hawaiian cultural events
here in the Bay Area? I know there's a network of ex-
patriate locals living out here (I work with several), and
I know Hawaiian musicians come out here every so often, but
I'd like to know in advance and not by accident at the last
moment when local musicians will be gigging in SF or when
there's a local hula competition, etc. Do you have a link
or a "correspondent" out here in the Bay Area? If not,
it might be something to consider -- there's so many of us
out here who adore everything Hawaiian. I'm happy
to help you in this endeavor any way I can, so long as
I have the right tools and the information of course.
Please let me know how I can contribute in this way or any
other.

Mahalo for your time and dedication to Hawaii nei...

Well done for the good work at IRH.
I am calling from Singapore. I am very excited on this new
concept of audio on demand and belief that this will catch up if
the sound quality is improved.
As I listen to the songs it reminded me of my short Holidays in
Hawaii.
Keep up the good work. You may write to me on anything.

I so enjoy playing and re-playing the songs (.au) files you posted on your
Hotspots Web page. The .au files work well with the audio card in my Sun
Sparcstation-10. Unfortunately, the playback is only mono, but I guess
that's o.k., as your songs are mono versions.
Can you post more songs to your Web page like "Hualalai" by Makaha Sons?
They are one of my favorite groups, and I like their "choral" style of
singing. Also, can you post Bros Caz songs, or are they restrictive about
that? Also, you might post some nature sounds, like different birds
(with a picture), as well as ocean sounds. Would make us expatriates feel
less homesick...
Thanks again for creating the Sounds of Hawaii Web-page!
Great written introduction. A rarity on the net from what I see.
Really enjoyed you musical experiment.
I give Real Audio a 6 out of 10 at the moment, but I have to admit
to only having a 25Mhz 486.
Other than that I think it's the best thing since you-know-what.
Thanks again. Will visit again sometime in the future. D
Thanks for all of your hard work, as a typical former Island boy, (when
growing up there couldnt wait to get away, now living on the mainland cant go
back enough!)
I appreciate your work. Hula is truly a beautiful and gracefull artform.
Keep up the good work and Mahalo!.

Sorry, I was speecless, bra! Living on the mainland (California),
we don't get much Hawaii music. Lately, I've been missing Hawaiian
songs too much. Your broadcast was the first thing I heard with
RealAudio and I was blown away. I love the format and every song. One
thing I miss that you can put in the show is local talk--just one or
two locals talking Pidgin about anything. It would be so nice to hear
Pidgin all way from the mainland.
I really appreciate all the interesting items available on the H4. I'm
particularly motivated
to add my 2 cents since I took advantage of the opportunity to greet and
tour the Hokule'a as
it arrived in Santa Barbara on 8 Jul 95. A good number of kamaainas at
heart were there, and
it's not easy to come across them everyday on the mainland. It would be
great if the H4 could
list Hawaiian entertainer schedules on the mainland. I've seen Kapena,
Cazimero Bros. and Moe
Keale in the LA area, and ads for Israel K in Las Vegas, but these are too
few and far between.
Mahalo again for your hard work.
howzit rabbett, no can listen to da kine audio files because cannot use
realaudio on America Online. ( Das what realaudio says anyway) Bum me out.
Get plenty of local guys here in Sacramento Ca. with computers who are with
AOL and who would stoked if we can get Hawaiian music samples. Going be mo
betta when we can order CD's from the H4 network. Also how often do you
update the local news? The more news da betta you know. Keep up the good
work. I visit this site often. Take it easy brah! And keep up the good
work. Mahalo
I stumbled on your page by searching for hula. Last month I
tried the same thing, but your site never came up. Boy am I
glad I tried again!
Your coverage on the Merrie Monarch and other hula festivals,
as well as the music is truly FANTASTIC!!! I studied the hula
for 4 years, including a few seminars with Chinky Mahoe. I was
heavily involved in my halau, until time constraints forced me
to stop. After seeing your pictures and hearing the music, I
just want to go back!
Keep up the great work! I hope you'll have similar coverage of
the 1995 Keiki Hula.
By the way, your large GIFs should be JPEGs to keep the
file size small because my PC version of Netscape 1.2b does not
seem to want to load the large GIFs (referring to the pictures
that come up when I click on the smaller picture).
Patricia Sukhabut
While listening to the show, the connection info on the real
audio player shows missing bits which in turn sounds a little
garbled. Like the idea though, will probably sound real good
while I am sitting in the cold and snow in December here in
Baltimore, Maryland. Have a good one.
Jay
Hey there Rabbett,
I read about the RealAudio software awhile back but I never bothered to
actually try it...till tonight. It's neat! I like having the news and
sports available on demand and the response time is very quick. It's much
quicker and the quality is better than what I though it would be (I just
got a GV Platinum 28.8 modem, so that may be why it's faster).
It's so cool that I can't wait to show someone! It'll knock the socks off
of the teachers up at Kailua. ;-)
Just wanted to give you some feedback...
Ryan
Hi,
Well, reguarding your latest irh....
***** five stars! You really missed your calling, if you are not
in radio already!
myself... a face just made for radio.
Only 2 little pops in the 30 minutes. Sounds a bit scratchy, but
understandable, probably due to the ra compression. Keep it at about 25
minutes, and it will be perfect. I was able to even rewind and fast
forward (over the BAND) ;).
Hows about some HAPA, brah?
bee lishenin.
Art Lowery
NOTE: Thanks Art...I was in Radio for 19 years already...this is better..I am the Boss! he he he-Rabbett;)
This is great! Keep it coming! (I'm listening to the "First long
format program" as I type this.) Wish I could get KCCN this way all
the way out here in Massachusetts!
Sound quality isn't all that great - it sounds something like what I
imagine some of the early Hawaii Calls programs (on shortwave??)
must have sounded like. But that's kind of nice - this is early
Internet radio!
Charlie
Rabbett,
Thanks for the Radio Hawai'i info, but I'm running on a Sun Sparc LX, too bad
most of the fun stuffs for the Mac and Windows.
Anyway, was thinking that what hawaii really needs is a better spy cam,
not like the lame "Hawaiian Eye" which justs overlooks the harbor, but
a beach cam instead (Sunset or Waimea, perhaps?). Even the manoa cam gets
boring after awhile (it's always cloudy anyway, but if you lucky, you just
might see a rainbow).
Hmm...maybe people don't want cams out there, so that people don't all rush
that particular beach whenever a swell rolls in. Well, I guess I'll have to
just wait until those areas become wired.
Bryan
Hi...
You have no idea how welcome your RealAudio programs are to me. I
just last Friday got Netscape, and Real Audio up and running under my
NetCruiser front end thing, and immediately went looking for things to
hear on Real Audio. I had already been to several Hawai'i pages, and
found yours this past weekend.
Even with the poor audio, the vocal stuff is quite acceptable... the
music seems to be rougher, in that less produced stuff, perhaps with
less bass in it, seems to work the best... not unlike the early days of
audio when the sound was thin and tinny and way low fi. The novelty
of this will eventually wear off, but for now I am totally stoked!!!
When I was in Honolulu in 1982, on vacation, I got hooked on KCCN-AM
and their traditional Hawaiian music. I didn't find any FM stations
then doing Hawaiian music, although I know now about KCCN-FM, and Radio
Free Hawai'i; and something called Jahawaiian music. I am a great fan
of Gabby and the other more traditional type Hawaiian artists you
play... I bought several records while on vacation, and played them for
years on my own show on KALX-FM in Berkeley, CA. I still do a show
there, but it is limited now to demo tapes and cassette-only
releases... If you happen to know of any groups/solo acts at the demo
or cassette-only level who might want to send a tape to me, see the
bottom of this for my address.
Please continue to do show-length stuff, as well as provide CD catalog
numbers with the titles/artists info, so we can perhaps order the music
here...not to mention making the ASCAP/BMI types happy!! I definately
like the show format... please keep the shows available for several
weeks even as you do new ones, so people who gradually hear about this
can check them out. By the way, I happened to see the H.Advertiser
today at a newsstand, and saw the article on the Nation Of Hawai'i and
so got a charge from hearing you refer to it in the show! Please keep
up the mix of music *and* local news and flavor... and I like the idea
of having guests and maybe even doing some talk shows with people in
the news. I'd especially like to hear from the people involved with
the sovereignty movement, and from people on the other side. It's hard
to really know from here just how big a thing it is...
BTW, your sports report for today (Monday) got as far as buffering down
from 12 to 0 in the player, but no sound ever came out... I rechecked
the one from last Friday and it still worked fine... also I find that
the sound seems to come over with less dropouts etc, if you minimize as
many things as possible and don't even move the mouse! Just sit back
and listen! Every time I did things, or opened up windows or tried to
adjust controls on the sound card on-screen controls, I started losing
a lot of bits... the sound continued but got quite garbled... as soon
as I closed things down and left it all alone, things went back to a
very minimal loss of bits, according to the statistics dropdown thing
on the raplayer unit.
Hey... it's waaaay past my bedtime! I gotta go now, but again thanks
for all you're doing and don't stop!!!!!

Just a quick note to say I enjoyed the show and the song! If
realaudio ever gets good high fidelity, there'll be no stopping it as a
mass medium (er...in my opinion).

How about some HAPA, or PETER MOON?
They are supposed to be similar to Hawaiian Style Band.

hi there! i've been scanning your HAWAII home pages. i'm a friend of melvin
ahching, and i believe you two work together on these internet things. i was
in hawaii a few weeks ago and i loved it! would love to live there but i
know i would not be able to find a job with a salary comparable to what i
make here. but other than that, i loved hawaii. especially the food.... it
was like being home. and i could not believe the amount of black hair i saw
on the island... and tourists were coming to ME for directions. good thing
my japanese is understandable. they all seemed to assume i was japanese,
while here in california everything thinks i'm anything BUT japanese
(philiphino, chinese, korean, vietnamese).
is there a hawaii mailing list on the internet yet? if so, could you tell
me how to subscribe to it?
and say hello to mel for me!!
Rabbett,
here in denver, it's hard to find hawaiian music, hows about broadcasting your
radio program over the net? I'm sure there's all kinds of legal issues to
consider, but a real-time (or near real-time) broadcast would be good
especially at work. Although I haven't read up on all the technical stuff, I
know that other net radio stations will be popping up soon. Tanks, eh, for
putting music samples on your web page.

Hello Rabbet!
Read about your page from The Sun Press and have been here a few times
already.
Great stuff, from this IBM dinosaur's viewpoint. (makes me think of signing
on with the Mac PowerPC camp)
Although it's a stretch and cramps bandwidth, have you considered .MPEGs of
some Merrie Monarch performances? Hula is a dynamic art, and still pictures
can only hint at the grace and motion of the message. (I wonder what KHON
would make of this request?) Just a thought; Cimtegration/The Third Eye
probably could say more about .MPGs than could I.

Aloha Rabbett, great thing you got going here. This is my freeway back
home. Hawaii's calling but for unfortunate personal reasons I can't get
back, not yey anyway. I'm really excited about the Hawaiian music page but
have been unable to get the audio to work. I'm new to computing/computers so
I don't know if its something I'm doing. Any helpful hints would be greatly
appreciated. I've turned other Hawaiians on to you service and they're
excited about it too. It's hard to keep up with the music up here. I you
could occationally inform us on the mainland about who's going to be up here
to perform, when, where, ets... I bet you would make alot of people happy.
Anyway much
Aloha and Mahalo for you continuing efforts. Keep up the great work!!
Aloha Rabbett,
I just started surfin' the net and found H-4. I love it! I tried to
give directions to my cousin in Pennsylvania. I don't know if she found
it yet. I can cruz this highway all day. But, I should work a little
too. Anyway, I work for the UH-Manoa, COE, Maui Outreach Program and my
office is in the Maui Research & Technology Park. We are next to the new
Maui High-Tech Super Computer. Maybe some one in this building or next
door could do a Maui Section on H-4. I always said there would be a
bridge from Maui to O'ahu one day. H-4 needs a bridge to Maui. I am new
to the net and don't even know where I'm going most the time but good
thing my H-4 bookmarker always gets me home.

Hey, it's fun listening to the Makaha Sons while I'm telling you how great it is
listening to the Makaha Sons while I'm...
RealAudio is very cool - glad you got it. Hope you keep it. Hope everybody likes
it. Much better than having to download huge files. Nice way for people to
check out the general sound of an artist or song. Then you know what you are
getting, and of course the sounds that you purchase will be high quality.
Good work, Rab!
Rich
Aloha and Mahalo!
You've done what I have only thought about. I don't have access to the
WWW today now I have a reason. Too bad it's going to mean having to sink
a bunch of bucks into new hardware to get the up grade so that I can get
more than a text feed.
For a long time, here on the Mainland, I've missed the sounds of Hawaiian
music. My professional background is in the media (but not radio), still
I was interested in what it would take to get Hawaiian music on the air.
There are, ofcourse, a few scattered programs around the US, but by no
means anything that could support itself.
The WWW is a natural choice. I've only recently learned of "RealAudio"
and was lead to understand that it's in a beta phase. Is this true?
In the past, I've considered using cable television to deliver the high
quality audio from a centralized satellite feed, but dealing with the
individual cable systems is a major undertaking. I do have experience in
cable TV: a number of years ago, a handful of us put together a company
that is now called "E! Entertainment Television".
I believe that cable still offers a solution for bandwith and speed of
transmissions issues for the growth of the Internet and especially for
"multimedia" applications. The cable industry, however, still has a long
way to go in this area.
I'm extremely interested is your success, and would welcome the chance to
exchange ideas.
Best of luck!!!

Hi,
I have been to Hawaii two times, once when I was 4 and the other time when I was 12.
My mother's family and relatives live on both Maui and Oahu islands. My dear grandmother,
who has been suffering from Emphizema, lives on Kahului, Maui. I haven't been back for
seventeen years. What's the job market like there, and how about the weather?
Both my wife and I are interested in a japanese pen-pal club. Do you have access to this
kind of information? If you do please let us know.

I'm dissapointed...
Hi, my name is Rogier de Moel and I'm from The Netherlands.
I know that's far away from the Pacific, but I have been to Hawaii once
and it struck me! It was so beautiful and like a dream for me. The
islands in the South Pacific should maintain that beauty too! If they
keep testing A-bombs nature may never be able to restore itself.
Therefore i hope that the French won't test anymore bombs.
Aloha!

Rabbett,
Thanks for your reply to my entry.
I must commend you by saying that the H4 does look like a labor of love. I
have lots of bookmarks to Hawaii pages, but yours makes me feel more like I'm
really there. Yours is like reading the local newspaper and hanging out at the
local restaurants, whereas "Planet Hawaii" is like reading a travel brochure
and going to the Don Ho show! (It's just NOT the SAME!)
I hope you make lots of bucks with the H4 (or at least enough to quit that
yucky day job!), but don't let it get too slick and commercialized, ok?!
P.S. I was at the Windham Hill page (www.windham.com) the other day, and I
noticed that they've finally included some of the Dancing Cat CD's (the Slack
Key Guitar Series, produced by George Winston, I think.) I'm working on my
collection of Hawaiian CDs, and these are pretty good.
BTW, do you know anything about the group "Hapa"? We got their (excellent) CD
at the KPOA music shop in Maui last year, and were wondering if they are still
around?

I have lived on the mainland for almost 21 years now but have always tried to keep in touch with.
what is going on in my birth state. Although I have been away from home.
for many years my heart is always saddened when I hear about the outrageous.

Howdie,
Rabbett, this is a great server! I've been surfing it for about two
hours now to try to get some ideas on what i can't miss when i'm there
this summer.
Ya know, when you mention the names of towns/beachs/whatever, its pretty
hard for the average mainlander to figure out where the heck it is!
I'm looking for info on Kauai for events from June 28- July 10. Also,
if you know of a sail trip from Honolulu to Kauai (like to sail or
cruise more than flying) I'd be very appreciative.
Keep up the great work. Also, if I can be of any assistance to your
efforts in any way, let me know, I'd be glad to help or find someone who
can. All the server stuff comes from people who sit around me... bunch
of geeks in a row I guess.

Rabbett,
Excellent web site!! Can't say enough about it. (I'm ordering tee shirts)
I really enjoyed the Hawai`ian music. It worked fine on my Mac :-)

Aloha no!
Thanks so much for setting up your music page! I'm sure you will be
deluged with hoardes of requests from Hawaiian music fans to add their
favorite tunes, so I won't specify any that I'd like to see (unless
you _want_ requests), but ... I did notice one glaring omission that I
hope you will address in the future....
Where are the wahine?
With musicians like Aunty Genoa, Teresa Bright, Robi Kahakalau, Loyal
Garner, Nohelani Cypriano, Haunani Apoliona, Ku'uipo Kumukahi, Leahi,
Na Leo Pilimehana, Kaleo O Kalani, and others, there ought to be a
track or two sufficiently compelling to add....
Mahalo!

Rabbett:
Tried your audio files on http://www.hotspotshawaii.com this a.m.
Sounds great! I just have a little 6 inch mono speaker on
my Sun workstation, so can't evaluate the sound completely.
But the quality is remarkably good.
Suggestions: 1) When you have time, you might want to
encode the .au files using the Unix "compress"
command, for those of us who have Unix systems.
You could offer two versions - compressed and
uncompressed.
2) You might want to include other musics, such as
Japanese flute and strings, Tahitian and Samoan
music, etc., which has contributed to Hawaii's
diverse cultural mosaic.
Thanks again for sharing your Web page with us!

Hi:
I was in Hawaii from '71-'74 - married a local girl and developed an
enduring love for Hawaiian music and culture. I still have all my Gabby
Pahinui/Hui Ohana/Sunday Manoa etc records and like to update whenever I
can. We get back about every 2-3 years. I just discovered the Hawaii
Home Page and am still trying (not with much success) to download some
of the RealAudio music files.
I'd like to know if Dr Bob Teichman from the hospital on Kauai is WWW

Just wanted to send my "Aloha", not sure if I've signed on your guest
book before. I'm always checking out sites on Hawaii. I grew up on
Oahu...from Wahiawa. Left for college in '68 but I do get back to the
islands. I still have family on Oahu and da Big Island. I've been living
in the San Jose area since then.
Keep up the good work!
Hi Rabbett,
Just cruising on the H4 and thought I would wave (or somethingg).
Kris Bucar
Love your Web pages! Spent a whole hour exploring this afternoon...
However, when I tried to play the 500+KB files of Hawaiian music,
nit just came out as correlated noise. Perhaps we do not have the
proper decompression routine. I think "XMosaic" was treating the
files as ".au" files, instead of compressed audio. Does Netscape
incorporate the compression method you use? If not, where can we
(at Univ. Florida CIS Dept.) get a public-domain copy of your com-
pression and decompression routines?
Thank you, and keep Web-ing!

Stumbled onto the H-4 when I queried a Yahoo Search with the word
"Aloha". Been excited ever since to have this link to my beautiful
Islands. Would love to see the following: more local-kine recipes,
airline info - especially cheapest fares and room deals during the
Holiday Season, anything relating to hula halau/lua/ancient
culture/olelo Hawai'i/Punana Leo. Also wish you'd find a way to
carry Hawaiian music and/or books so we can keep our collections
current stay informed. Any chance you could give us news briefs of
the latest goings-on in the Islands? Mahalo nui loa for all the
coverage of the Merrie Monarch & PVS stuff - you're doing a wonderful
job! Next time you go through the Wilson Tunnel to the windward side

soon as I can. Me ke aloha pumehana - Kailianu
Just wanted to say "Hi". Looking through this for more information. I'll be
vacationing in Hawaii this coming June 2nd thru June 9th. I've been to
Hawaii many times. I'm going with a bunch of friends and wanted to plan
things that I haven't done yet. This is helpful.
Just found your page on the Net. Really enjoyed the D. Chapman articles on golf. As one who
was re-addicted to the game a few years ago it is enjoyable to read his views. Good to see
articles and information on local issues. Thanks, keep it up. Tim Kroll
Great job about Hawai'i. As a local stuck in Florida it was nice to see stuff about Hawai'i. Keep up the good work.
You did a great job setting up your web site. Makes me feel like I'm
back in Hawaii. Unfortunately, the closest I'll get for a while is
seeing the Makaha Sons in San Francisco and watching the Hokuleia when
she sails under the Golden Gate bridge in July.
Hope you can keep up the good work.
(I also enjoy seeing your comments in eWorld -- I'm HarrisonK there.)

Eh Rabbett!
Just got through skimmin' your H-4 pages and enjoyed my visit. You can
bet I'll be back again.
Like many of us on ACH and AMH, we now live on the mainland or around the
world who at one time lived in Hawai`i. We miss the people, the aloha,
the culture. H-4 is a connection to all things Hawaiian. A big Aloha to
you and the folks at H-4!

I just wanted to say thanks to your site for being on the internet. My wife
and I have thoroghly enjoyed all the local stuff available on your WWW
server. I have known about H4 for a few months and it has become a
part of my top ten list of sites to visit on the net. I believe it is the best
site in Hawaii. My wife is Hawaiian. I am Samoan. She has been living
away from Hawaii for about 12 years and it's been nice to get a taste of
what is going on in Hawaii even though we visit every so often. Your
pictures were great and especially the ones from Melvin AhChing. When
I showed my wife she was thrilled since Mel was a class mate of hers
at Honokaa high school. Because of your service I've been able to
communicate with Mel through email. Isn't the internet great? By the
way I am not able to get on to your server today. Hope everything is
okay and your server comes up soon. Aloha!
Voi Ray Taeoalii..
NOTE: Our provider had problems with their frame relay to the Internet this past week during the afternoon hours Hawaii time..sorry for the inconvenience. The Internet is still a rather fragile place...
my wife and i have to host a hawaiian dinner in a couple of weeks,
your pages have been of great use, but if you happen to have any
recipes that we could use, it would be even more helpful
thanks,
laurie
NOTE: Laurie was directed to: http://www.hotspotshawaii.com/yummy.html, our recipe section.
Just wanted to send a great big Mahalo to all you for the great
information. It's been ten years since I lived in Hawaii, and am
doing everything possible here in Colorado to make it financially
possible for me to return again. And this time for good.
Your page does wonders to bring back the fragrance of the plumeria,
the warmth of the trades, and the spirit of "aloha".
Would love to have more information on-line about possible island
jobs and island employers.
Again... Mahalo!

Aloha Brah!
I really enjoyed the pictures of the Merrie Monarch that you provided on
the Internet. Being a former hula dancer and living on the mainland, it
was really nice to come across these pix on the H4 Superhighway. It
provided a link from da islands to da mainland that I never tire of.
When I saw the pix, I got da chicken skins as it brought back fond
memories of the days when I was dancing. Keep up da good work!

Eh, try put some more stuff like people or surfahs who like e-mail each
other. Or make an article, surf check, or insite on the big Island surf
spots and their locals. Honolii would be cool! My friend Noah Johnson
rips, so does Ben Jaquis and Topo Kailimai. Try find out some stuff.
Picture would be great to look at.

NOTE: Mufi was emailed a reply suggesting that he let us know who these people might be and to let them know where we are...as of May 6, we have not heard anything back from him.
Great pages, great stuff. I'm a Vancouverite, up here in
British Columbia, longing for the day when I can get back to
the Islands.
I do have a request! These friends of mine are pregnant, and
being as they were married on Maui, and I believe they may have
conceived there while on their recent anniversary, they are looking
for a listing of Hawaiian names for there upcoming addition to the
family. Do you know where I might go about finding a list of names
and their meanings translated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi! I've been visiting your site for about one week now, and I just
love it. Being
born and raised in Hawaii has given me the oppertunity to fully appreciate
the service you
provide. Two years ago I moved to Southern Oregon, and have since then
never found
it particularly likable. Here I went from surfing to snowboarding and,
overall, from watersports
to computers and homework.
BTW, I found your site when looking for things on surfing... which I
happily found.
Hope to write again,

it's cyberspace-wise. Hope to connect with other Net-types like you when

everything seem to work okay. It was a lot of fun. Keep up the good
work your web server is one of the best I've seen so far. Need to

Have a great day I will visit you guys soon.
I picked up your web site address from alt.culture.hawaii

Hey! Good server and good contest. Guess it's the only good reason I'm
not a Hawai'i resident. By the way, the water is about 48 degrees here
now. Waves are good, but ice cream headaches suck.

Well!! Here in Finland we have temperatures around 0 degrees centigrade
I envy your weather!!!
Just like to throw in my two cents....ching, ching...It is nice to
find something REALLY Hawaiian. Not what the mainland media thinks is
Hawaiian. When the cyberlines get too rough, I can surf here and relax
with some shave ice. It's all good.

Just wanted to say hi from the mainland.
I was fortunate to have visited Hawaii for
the first time in my life (55)last February.
I was the guest of a Hawaiian native. I
also got to meet and visit with some of my
relatives whom I never knew existed. My
grandfather was born in Hakalau. He was
one of many children. Some of whom still
live in varied places in Hawaii.
I love the islands and the culture there. I
hope to learn more about the culture and
the many relatives still living there. I
hope too to get to come back.
The things that struck me the most, besides
the culture were, the color, and the clean
air and clear skies.
I had the ocassion to walk in downtowwn
Seattle last week and compared it to
walking in downtown Honolulu -- give me
Honolulu ANY day!
Thanks for the opportunity to visit via
the InterNet.
Mahalo. . .
what a great site I am from Margaret River West Australia..
I very new... How do I get more surf info...////
Aloha,
I have been looking through your home page and found a lot
of great stuff! I am heading to the Islands the first week
of April for a week of vacation and was interested in getting
out for a paddle while I am there. I am currently involved in
outrigger paddling in California and would love to swap for
cruise in a canoe in your waters. If you know where I might
go for information on clubs in Waikiki, it would be most
helpful. I went to Western Samoa last year for the IPCF World
Sprints and met a number of paddlers from local clubs in Oahu,
and even visited the sight along the canal on the way back.
We have also been into hula for the last couple of years and
had a crab feed where we all performed, about a week and a half
ago.
The name of our club is Kilohana, in Redwood City, CA.
What so you know about affordable golf on Oahu?
Again, I love all the information and pics in H-4!
Mahalo!

Aloha, Rabbett:
I discovered your site the other day, and am delighted to be able to communicate with Hawaii, which is my favorite spot in the whole world. I'm practicually a local, as I've been going there since 1971 -- about 18 times. It's my home away from home, and I try to get there at least once a year. I have passed on your address to others interested in Hawaii! I hope this site stays on for many years! Diana
Just wanted to let you know that I dropped in and liked what I

Hi, I was born and raised in Hawaii and love my home very
much still. When my boyfriend introduced me to Internet,
I was eager to seek out current information from my home
town of Kaneohe, Oahu. I love what you have here. There
is so much to access. It seems even more so that when I
was living there. Mostly because everything is at the
touch of my fingertips.
I would like to see some information on purchasing local
design t-shirts and pareos. Swimsuits and stuff too.
Hawaii has the much cooler stuff.
Anyway, keep up the great work!!!
I have visited Hawai'i twice. Been to 4 of the islands. Saw museums,
history, took a tour with a (at least part) Hawai'ian. During the tour
we picked up fruit along the road. This fruit became our lunch that we
ate at an old house belonging to one of his uncles. He seemed to have
uncles everywhere. Anyway, I would like to learn more of the history and
culture and language of the Hawai'ians.

Hey guys..
I have been checking out your page for the past couple
of days now. I really was surprised when I stumbled across
this advertisement on this advertising tree thing on this
one Japanese server that I was checking out. I am really
glad to see a home page coming out of Hawaii besides the one
from Honolulu Commmunity College. I think one thing that i
would really love to see is a section on recipies. Being
a college student who has traveled many long miles from his
home town in Kaneohe, I really miss local cuisine.. If I could
get my hands on recipies, not necessarily hawaii stuff, but
I guess anything (since WEB sites are open to the world), that
would be of incredible value to me.. Also all the masses of
people who also may happen to stumble across this home page
the same way I did.. Other than that, I think this H-4 page
is AWESOME...
-Gaven
Just a note from up North, St. John's NF Canada.
I have travelled to Hawaii six times now and will
be returning to the islands in May. I must admit
that I miss the sun and fun of the beach and warm
days and nights. The H-4 is the closest contact to
Hawaii for me and that while it is not quite the
same as being there in person its the next best
thing.

Two things that you might think about adding to your General Store:
1. Crack seed
I live in No. CA, so my current crack seed supply is okay.
But when I lived in the midwest, I would have given
my left arm, leg, whatever, for a way to easily get
crack seed.
2. Florist
There are times when I still would like to get a
haku or a maile lei for special occasions, but it's
a hassle.
Hope you do well.

Glad to see the Hawaii page.
I studied ka olelo when I used to commute on the Long Island
Railroad to NYC in my 20s to keep from going nuts.
I have a friend in Honolulu that put me up for a month
a few years ago. I went around to the old sites of
Hawaiian culture sketching them and taking stereo photos.
I also like to wind surf but have not yet taken on big waves.
So, I am interested in seen more hawaiian culture, archeological sites,
wind surfing chat and pictures, and hawaiian language chat.
The pages get here a little slowly. Maybe they should be smaller,
or maybe the lines are slow.
Mahalo nui for the hawaii page.

I'm located in Newfoundland (rhymes with 'understand', and not your state

of shovelling snow and now I am thawing out. It is a beautiful sunny day,
but really 'crisp'. Frankly, Hawaii sound good right now ...
We are an island too, but that's about all we have in common.
Newfoundland is the eastern-most point in North America, just a hop, skip
and a jump from Ireland where most of our ancestors came from. We'll be
celebrating the 500th anniversary of our discovery by the Italian
explorer John Cabot (anglicized version of his name) in 1997.
Happy days and good health to you!

not been there for the last two years and I miss it a great deal. After
living in the islands for three years I became vey accustomed to the
life-style and the people. So thank you again for the opportunity to see
the island again.
